Why Hillary Will Win Nevada

Fri Jan 18, 2008 at 07:43:32 PM PDT

In 2004 I had a the great pleasure of being posted to Las Vegas by the Kerry Campaign to work in the Nevada Democratic HQ as I speak English and Spanish. Here is my original post on DKos as I packed my bags in Sydney Australia and head to Las Vegas.

This time allowed me to meet and work with many key Nevada politicians including Shelley Berkley, Harry and Rory Reid, Ruben Kihuen and many others. We worked very closely with all the unions and union leaders. Therefore, I got a very first-hand training of how Las Vegas and Nevada politics work. Harry Reid was also running for re-election, and his office was right next to ours.

During this time I broke the Rethug Voter Registration Scandal on DKos in a diary entitled:Thousands of Nevada Dem Voter Registrations Destroyed by Repugs.  This was my first diary ever on the Rec List and the fall out from that scandal resonated throughout Nevada and adjacent states.

So with this knowledge I am providing an analysis of why I feel Hillary will do well in Nevada and probably win the caucuses by 2-3%.  I am also a Hillary partisan, as most Kossacks will be aware.

Breaking: Letter Carriers Union to Endorse Hillary!! Updated

Wed Sep 12, 2007 at 07:09:22 AM PDT

The National Association of Letter Carriers plans to announce its presidential endorsement of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton at an 11 a.m. press conference at its Washington headquarters today.

Clinton also has been endorsed by the United Transportation Union and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.

Earlier this summer, the AFL-CIO’s member unions failed to reach a consensus agreement on backing one candidate. Likewise, the Change to Win Federation of seven unions—including the Teamsters—is not backing one candidate.

As a result, unions have been splitting their support among Democratic hopefuls.

Collapse of Belgium (and we wonder why we cannot fix Iraq)

Wed Sep 05, 2007 at 05:54:34 AM PDT

The nation of Belgium is facing one of its greatest crises in its 170+ year history. Without a real Government since June and bitterly torn in twain between French-speaking Wallonia and Dutch-speaking Flanders, the demise of the nation of Belgium is now being openly debated throughout the country.

Born in 1830 in a largely Catholic-led revolt against Dutch rule within the United Kingdom of the Netherlands, Belgium was legally solidified in the 1839 Treaty of London. Interestingly it was the German violation of the Treaty of London through their invasion of neutral Belgium which was the legal trigger that led the British  to declare war on Germany in 1914 resulting in part in WWI.

Hillary Clinton Endorsements -September Update

Tue Sep 04, 2007 at 07:36:37 PM PDT

Here is the updated state-by-state master list of elected Democrats and other key people supporting Hillary Clinton for President. This is being done to make an easy-to-use resource for Democrats Abroad for Hillary, but I thought I would share it with all of you as well.

The list (in order of inclusion by state) includes US Senators (7), US Representatives (53), Governors (4) and other significant statewide office holders (11), State Senators (50)and State Representatives (121) and mayors (67). That is over 300 senior elected Democratic state and federal officials many of whom are front line progressives who have endorsed Hillary's candidacy very early in the primary campaign. And particularly on the state and mayoral level, these include many new Democratic leaders who were ushered in the 2006 blue wave in which many Kossacks were so active.

That is followed by any former office holders of note (17).  I have also included Unions (2 unions, 2 union locals and 1 union leader) and other interesting persons (15).  I have not included county and sub-county officials as the data collecting for that is too difficult, and the list would be too long.
